Train and New Maps in CS2 – Nov 2024 Update

KeyDrop Team

The November 2024 update for CS2 has dropped, and it’s loaded with fresh content that’s bound to shake things up! Fans can finally rejoice as the long-awaited return of Train is here, redesigned and ready for action. But that’s not all—Valve has also introduced a lineup of new community maps, adding unique environments and fresh challenges to the map pool. Whether you’re a fan of competitive matches or intense Wingman duels, there’s something new here for everyone. Let’s dive into what’s changed with the November update and see what the new maps in CS2 have to offer!

Train Added to CS2

No one needs reminding how eagerly the Counter-Strike community has been waiting for de_train to make it into CS2. The CS:GO favorite hasn’t been part of the game since the switch to CS2… but the November update has officially brought it back!

Generally speaking, it’s still the same Train we all know and love, although it has gone through heavy redesign, both visually and in terms of structure. The first big change you’ll notice involves the visuals, with updated graphics, textures, and of course, lighting. Also, it’s raining on T-spawn and in a few other locations, with a well-designed effect of water droplets landing on your hands and weapon.

The layout is very similar, but both A and B got major overhauls, with much more open space and a simpler overall design. In an interesting move, Valve added a “Map guide” for Train to the game, demonstrating four T-side grenade line-ups. To check it out, go to Play > Practice and turn on “Load Map Guides” in the panel on the left side.

Give the new Train a go and see what you think! By the way, Overpass has also received a long list of minor updates and fixes, leading to speculation about its possible addition to the Active Duty pool in the near future.

New Community Maps

Thera, Mills, Assembly, and Memento have been removed, after a relatively short stint in the game—they had been added to the map pool less than 5 months ago, with one of the June 2024 updates to CS2. Now, Valve has replaced them with four other new maps—here they are!

1. Basalt: Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch

CS:GO old-timers already know this one, as this isn’t Basalt’s first appearance in the game. The map, created by RZL, Yanzl, and Oliver, was originally featured in Operation Riptide, back in 2021–2022. Inspired by the landscapes of Iceland, Basalt showcases a unique, scenic environment, with volcanic rock formations, coastal views, and rustic buildings.

In terms of gameplay, Basalt is filled with narrow chokepoints, close quarters, and areas with limited visibility, demanding tight teamwork and communication. The layout is designed to challenge players with a mix of open sightlines and tight spaces, making it crucial to have a strategy in place, as well as a good sense of map awareness. Whether you’re battling in the center or flanking through side paths, Basalt keeps players on edge with its unique and beautifully rugged terrain.

2. Edin: Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch

Now, this one we haven’t seen before! Inspired by the historic charm of a Scottish city, Edin brings a unique mix of classic architecture, narrow alleyways, and strategic points that will make you rethink your every move.

Just picture it: you’re running through tight corridors lined with stone buildings, dodging ambushes at every corner, and finding cover behind ancient walls that have definitely seen a few battles before yours. You can enter many of the buildings: the atmosphere is rich, detailed, and gives you that “lost in time” vibe—until, of course, you’re back to landing headshots.

Edin is the result of a collaboration between Slimek, Peake, and KlixX. During its time in the Steam Workshop, the map has received plenty of positive feedback for the balanced layout, with vertical elements, choke points, and open areas for intense standoffs. Let’s see how it does as part of the official map pool!

3. Palais: Wingman

Say bonjour to Palais, the latest 2v2 map for the Wingman mode in CS2, bringing Parisian charm and high-stakes action to CS2! Set atop the rooftops of Paris, this map combines the elegance of a historic museum with the intensity of close-quarters combat. From hidden corners in museum halls to the open rooftop spaces, every inch of Palais feels alive with possibilities and peril—perfect for players who crave both beauty and thrill.

Originally crafted by creators tchick and Quoting for CS:GO, Palais has been reimagined for CS2 with breathtaking visuals that make full use of the Source 2 engine. The mix of indoor and outdoor spaces means no two rounds feel the same; you could be holding down a tight corridor one moment, then weaving between garden planters on the terrace the next.
